Whitehawk Ranch Ladies
The Whitehawk Ranch ladies golf club wrapped up the season’s golf events with the final Ace of Aces match, Sept. 28. Ten ladies had qualified to play in the finals, but only five could make it this late in the season.
Our low gross Ace of Aces winner this year is Marcia Zeigler, who shot a round of 80 that day. Our low net Ace of Aces winner was Christy Randall, with a round of 67 to win it.
The winners received various awards, including cash prizes and gift certificates, at our annual luncheon held Oct. 5, at The Lodge at Whitehawk.
Once again, the Lodge put on a first class event, with beautifully decorated tables and a delicious luncheon for the ladies. Our club champion, Marcia Zeigler, and our captain's cup champ, Della Miller, received two beautifully engraved crystal vases.

My family, including my 10-year-old, headed up to Bucks Lake for trail work with the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship late last month. The turnout was good — about three-dozen locals — and we accomplished a lot. We built two turnpikes (elevated sections of trail through muddy areas) on a rerouted section of the mountain bike loop. My daughter and I made a formidable culvert-digging, wheelbarrow-pushing team. We were well rewarded with ample food and beverage throughout the day for our efforts. It’s amazing what a kid will do in exchange for an enormous chocolate muffin.

The loop, which runs from Bucks Summit to Whitehorse Campground and back, has always been a bit funky. One leg of it was hard to follow, and it deposited you on the highway to finish.

Quincy 36, Colusa 8

The Quincy High School football team improved its undefeated record to 6-0 last Friday night, when the Trojans traveled to Colusa and defeated the Redskins 36-8.

The victory brought Quincy to 3-0 in the Mid-Valley League, while dropping Colusa’s overall record to 0-6. No statistics from the game were made available.

FRC Women's Soccer

The Feather River College women’s soccer team traveled to Redding to take on the Shasta College Knights Oct. 5, when the Golden Eagles walked away with a hard-fought 2-2 draw and a well-earned point on the road.

Shasta opened the scoring with a well-placed chip shot over FRC keeper Kirsten Coultas.
