Many of the almost 200 cyclists that rode in the Summer Solstice Century last Saturday were full of praise for the event. "This ride's great," said a participant from Marin. "Everybody's so helpful and friendly." A considerable community effort went into the event, as 10 sponsors and more than 30 volunteers from the Quincy area supported the ride.

Tahja Watkins, who finished the season with a .573 batting average for the Chester Volcanoes, was selected as the Most Valuable Player in the Feather River League. 

The All-League selections for the 2010 softball season have been announced for the Feather River League.

Chester’s Tahja Watkins was chosen as the league’s Most Valuable Player. As a junior, Watkins finished the season with 47 hits, 39 RBIs, 42 runs, 15 doubles, six triples and five home runs.

Frenchman Lake

  Fishing has been great this past week with shore fishing between Big Cove and Turkey Point remaining excellent for rainbow trout. Fishermen have been catching their limit, weighing 1 to 2 pounds and 15 to 20 inches in length, using nightcrawlers, Dick Nites, and Powerbait in rainbow or chartreuse.

The wing on a sprint car provides downward force to increase traction.

6/23/2010 -   American Valley Speedway has become a New Age Coliseum for motor sports. Modern gladiators drive redesigned chariots powered by engines equivalent to hundreds of horses around a 0.375 mile dirt oval track in Quincy. Only Calistoga has a longer track in California.
