Opportunity to Comment on the
Rich Fire Recovery Project
The Forest Service, Plumas National Forest, Mt. Hough Ranger District, is preparing an Environmental Assessment for the Rich Fire Recovery Project. The Mt. Hough Ranger District proposes to: recover the economic value of fire-killed (dead) trees in high vegetation burn severity areas (136.9 acres); reduce the risk and spread of future wildfire within and adjacent to the Twain Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) by cutting, piling, and burning surface and ladder fuels (under 10 inches dbh) from low vegetation burn severity and unburned areas (70.6 acres); fell, lop, and scatter trees in high vegetation burn severity areas to limit long-term fuel loading in or immediately adjacent to the Twain WUI (49.7 acres); and reestablish forest conditions (361.5 acres). Treatments would include ground-based logging (tractor); endline logging (tractor); full suspension (tractor); hand thinning, piling, and burning; lop and scatter; and reforestation
The Rich Fire Recovery Project is located in the Rich Gulch watershed along Highway 70 and Plumas County Road 317, Plumas National Forest, Mt. Hough Ranger District, Plumas County, California. The legal location is T25N, R7E, sections 1 and 12; T25N, R8E, sections 5, 6, 7, 8, and 18; T26N, R8E, section 31; and T26N, R7E, section 36, MDBM.
The purpose of this comment period is to provide an opportunity for the public to provide early and meaningful participation on a proposed action prior to a decision being made by the Responsible Official. Those who provide substantive comments during this comment period are eligible to appeal the decision pursuant to 36 CFR part 215 regulations.
How to Comment and Timeframe
Written, facsimile, hand-delivered, oral, and electronic comments concerning this action will be accepted for 30 calendar days following the publication of this notice in the Feather River Bulletin. The publication date in the newspaper of record is the exclusive means for calculating the comment period for this analysis. Those wishing to comment should not rely upon dates or timeframe information provided by any other source. The regulations prohibit extending the length of the comment period.
