In preparation for adverse weather this week, PG&E is providing the following safety tips. Stormy weather throughout the North State will bring gusty winds starting Wednesday and continuing throughout the week.Windy weather and wet or snowy conditions have the potential to cause weather-related outages.

Preparing for Power Outages

  • Have battery-operated flashlights and radios with fresh batteries ready. Listen for updates on storm conditions and power outages.
  • If you have a telephone system that requires electricity to work (such as a cordless phone or answering machine), plan for alternate communication - have a standard telephone handset, cellular telephone or pager ready as a back-up.
  • Freeze plastic containers filled with water to make blocks of ice that can be placed in your refrigerator/freezer during an outage to prevent foods from spoiling.

The current weather pattern will last through midday Sunday.   The jetstream is running from the Gulf of Alaska into Northern California and is pushing a series of weak low pressure troughs or frontal systems across Northern California.  These systems aren't major precipitation producers but will bring showers and possible thunderstorms to all of the north state..'

This morning's satellite picture (below) shows the next system moving out of the Gulf of Alaska with quite a bit of cloudiness out ahead of it.  Today the north coast, Trinity, Siskiyou, Northern Shasta, and parts of Modoc county will be partly cloudy to cloudy with a few light showers.   The rest of the north state will start off sunny but will see increasing clouds during the day.
