RANCH DAY, A GREAT FAMILY OUTING
Anna and Don Harvey have a great lineup in store for visitors during their annual Ranch Day event Saturday, Aug. 9, at their very diverse and productive ranch/farm property in Sierra Valley, Harvey Farms and Forestry. There will be educational workshops, demonstrations and tours of their working sheep ranch and saw mill facility. For a minimal fee, you can attend your choice of classes offered by several experts covering topics that include rug hooking, bow loom weaving, beginning spinning, spinning on a drop spindle, sheep shearing, making pine needle ornaments and more. A ticket for their Basque lamb barbecue, noon – 2 p.m., includes a wagon ride during which riders will learn the rich history of the land and its occupants from the late 1890s to the present (tickets for the ride can be purchased separately). Thirsty-Trout
The grand opening of the Thirsty Trout on Main Street in Chester is Saturday, Aug. 2, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., and will include appearances by former San Francisco 49er stars Dan Bunz and Jeff Stover. Owner Tom and Mary (pictured) Maumoynier also own the Lake Almanor Fly Fishing Co. next door. Son Joey (pictured with Mary) will manage the full-service bar and said at this “family pub” patrons can enjoy an array of appetizers that include pulled pork sliders, chicken wings, fries, salads, Asian tacos and more. FIRST FRIDAY ART RECEPTION

Debbie Groesser invites everyone tocome join the fun at the Blue Goose Gallery of Artists First Friday art show and reception Aug. 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. This month’s theme is “From Dawn to Ducks,” featuring artists Ron Magoon, Marylin Magoon, Eva Havelik, Martha Herr, Susan Morey and Susan Kearns. As always, there are prizes, refreshments and fun! The gallery is on Main Street in Chester.

FISH FOR A WISH AT BIG COVE

For the 10th consecutive year, Gary and Paul Casella are hosting the Fish for a Wish tournament at their Lake Almanor business, Big Cove Resort. The event benefits the Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation that includes 17 counties in northern California. The event’s organizer, Gary’s son, A.J. Casella, has successfully raised over $400,000 in cash and in-kind contributions. It’ll take place Aug. 9 at Big Cove. Following the tournament — which is open to kids and adults — there will be prize giveaways, a silent auction and lunch.

POTVIN PROMOTED TO VICE PRESIDENT

Plumas Bank is pleased to announce that Raelyn Potvin has been promoted to vice president, internal audit officer. Raelyn joined the bank in 1985, working most of her career in accounting and eventually becoming the assistant controller and accounting manager. Four years ago she was named the internal auditor, taking on a leadership role in managing the bank’s audit resources. She has obtained several certifications from Independent Community Bankers of America, including those for internal auditor, compliance officer and BSA officer.

“Raelyn has worked for the bank for almost 30 years, always assisting our internal and external customers with a positive, helpful and caring approach.The board and I are pleased to promote her and we all look forward to many more years of leadership from Raelyn,”said Andrew J. Ryback, the bank’s president and CEO.

JUNIOR GOLF CLINICS AT PLUMAS PINES

Portola High School golf coach and PGA instructor Kyle Nielsen is holding junior golf clinics at Plumas Pines Golf Resort every Wednesday and Sunday afternoon, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Instruction includes the full swing, short game techniques, putting, the rules and golf etiquette. Kyle’s next four-day youth golf camp is July 28 – 31. It includes 4-1/2 hours of instruction each day, lunch and snacks. Golf clubs and equipment are also provided. “CHRISTMAS IN JULY” BENEFIT DINNER

Longboards Bar & Grill at the Plumas Pines Golf Course in Graeagle is hosting “Christmas in July” on Tuesday, July 15, to benefit the Eastern Plumas Angel Program. Executive Chef Sean Conry will prepare a traditional turkey dinner buffet served from 5 to 7 p.m. Guests are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy or gift for a needy child, aged newborn to 15 years. The price of the dinner, $20, includes a $5.00 donation to the Angel Program.

Tickets are available from the Eastern Plumas Chamber of Commerce and the Portola Care’s Resource Center and will also be sold at the door. For information call the restaurant at 836-1111 ext. 33.
