Candidates share vision for Portola

  The four candidates seeking to fill three seats on the Portola City Council met in a forum Oct. 9 hosted by the League of Women Voters.

  About a dozen people attended the event, including the city manager and mayor.

  League member Lee Anne Schramel Taylor posed the questions submitted by the audience.

East Quincy Service District expenditures questioned

  An East Quincy Services District customer presented a letter to the board expressing her dissatisfaction with how EQSD is spending its customer’s money.

  Kathy Felker read and distributed a letter, during the board’s Tuesday, Oct. 9 meeting, itemizing $287.91 in expenditures for items such as candy, soda, popsicles and sunblock.

Early morning fire damages Quincy home

  A fire broke out Monday, Oct. 15, about 4 a.m. at an Alder Court home in Quincy.

  The fire destroyed a storage shed and garage and did extensive damage to the kitchen and dining area of Bryan and Brenda Roccucci’s home.

  Unconfirmed reports indicate the fire most likely started in the storage shed behind the Roccucci home.

Sheriff withdraws restructuring plan

There will be no layoffs, demotions or restructuring in the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Greg Hagwood and Supervisor Jon Kennedy delivered the news in a joint announcement at the Feather Publishing offices in Quincy on Thursday.

Body found in Lake Almanor is likely missing swimmer

  Authorities have recovered the body of a man believed to have drowned in Lake Almanor last month.

  Plumas County Assistant Sheriff Gerry Hendrick said “we are 99 percent certain” that a body found floating in the lake Wednesday afternoon is that of Logan Merriweather.
