Plumas County leaf peepers wanted for fall color reports
The Plumas County Visitors Bureau has launched its phenomenally popular Awesome Autumn campaign. As part of the campaign, the bureau is looking for foliage reports from local leaf peepers. Timely reports and photos follow the changes in leaf color as they happen across Plumas County.

Outreach efforts to target seniors in Chester and Portola

Brew fest at Mountain Harvest Festival Saturday
As Plumas Arts prepares for the eighth incarnation of its Mountain Harvest Festival fundraiser Saturday, October 15, 2011, organizers are trying to balance the best of the old with the new.
To that end, beer lovers can expect longtime favorites like Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. from Chico and Great Basin Brewing Co. of Reno along with newcomers like Loomis Basin Brewing Co., High Water Brewing from Redding and Feather Falls Casino Brewing Co. Beer makers from as far away as Ireland and Nova Scotia and as close as Blairsden will be pouring samples at the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds (map) from 1 to 5 p.m. The gates open at Noon.

Medicare's Part D open enrollment begins October 15
Thousands in Plumas County affected, workshops planned
PASSAGES wants to remind Medicare beneficiaries that open enrollment to change or enroll in a Medicare prescription drug plan known as Part D begins October 15 and ends December 7. This is a date change from prior years. During this open enrollment, people will also be able to make changes to their health care coverage, such as enrolling in a Medicare Advantage plan.

Plumas County supervisors approve volunteer policy
Plumas County relies on the help of volunteers — at least 137 of them, according to a recent survey.
On Tuesday, Oct. 4, the Board of Supervisors approved a policy designed to standardize the training and background checks for people who volunteer their time and services to the county.

Traffic control update for Highway 70 near Keddie
PG&E spokesman Paul Moreno with an update for the power pole replacement at the Spanish Creek Bridge, "PG&E crews have made very good progress and we expect to complete repairs to this line by about 9 p.m. Thursday Oct. 13, and restore power to the 20 customers impacted. We were able to do this work by installing only two new poles. PG&E crews numbering more than a dozen workers installed the new poles and wires."
This should eliminate the need for controlled traffic at the construction site.
