  • Townhalls attract crowds: Assemblyman Brian Dahle and Sen. Ted Gaines met with constituents in Quincy and Chester during a three-meeting swing through Plumas and Lassen counties.
  • New leader: After nearly three decades, the Plumas County Mental Health Commission has a new leader. Supervisor Kevin Goss was named to replace Hank Eisenmann.
  • Home away from home: As of last week, new homes had been found for all of the patients at Quincy Nursing & Rehabilitation and most had already moved.

Portola teen rises to new heights in ‘Hairspray’

When 18-year-old Jennifer Wright steps on stage, her biggest fan will be in the audience.

“My mom is always saying, ‘You’re going to do this. You’re going to do well,’” Wright said.

“This” is the lead role in “Hairspray,” the Feather River College production that runs May 9 – 13 at the Town Hall Theatre in Quincy.

Water plant’s a wash, rate increases on tap

Last month it was a dismal report about the Greenville water treatment plant, and this month directors of the Indian Valley Community Services District will hear about proposed water and sewer rate increases, county projects and an easement around the historic Western Pacific Greenville freight depot.

They have a full agenda for their meeting tonight, Wednesday, May 9, in the Greenville Town Hall at 6:30 p.m.

Clio man killed in single-vehicle crash

A Clio man was killed Monday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash west of Portola.

Michael W. Shegda, 65, died after his truck left the roadway about 2:30 p.m. and struck two trees off of westbound Portola-McClears Road (A-15).
