SEVERE WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SACRAMENTO CA 540 PM PDT WED MAY 25 2011

...A TORNADO WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 615 PM PDT FOR WEST CENTRAL BUTTE AND EAST CENTRAL GLENN COUNTIES...

AT 532 PM PDT...DOPPLER RADAR CONTINUED TO INDICATE A TORNADO ON THE GROUND. THIS TORNADO WAS LOCATED 5 MILES EAST OF ORDBEND...OR 11 MILES SOUTHWEST OF CHICO...MOVING EAST AT 15 MPH. A SECOND TORNADO IS 3 MILES SOUTH OF ORD BEND AND MOVING TO THE EAST AT 15 MPH.

Late Sierra snow causes traffic problems; Highway 36 closed

4:00 p.m. Update
Highway 36 over Fredonyer Summit in Lassen County is now open to normal traffic in both directions.  Highway 172 near Mineral in Tehama County has also been re-opened.

3:45 p.m.Update
Cal Trans reports that the east-bound lane of Highway 36 over Fredonyer Summit is now open.  The west-bound lane is still closed.

2:15 p.m.
A late spring storm is bring winter-like weather and driving conditions to the northern Sierras. Snow conditions are reported throughout Lassen, Plumas, and eastern Tehama Counties.

Cloud seeding public forum Wednesday night

The Almanor Basin Watershed Advisory Committee (ABWAC) is hosting a community forum tonight, May 25, on PG&E’s cloud seeding operations in the Lake Almanor Basin.

The forum will be held in the new Almanor Recreation Center, which is located at 450 Meadowbrook Loop, next to the Truman Collins Sports Complex.

Close call in the canyon

A 61-year-old Quincy woman was hospitalized with serious injuries Sunday afternoon after a single-vehicle accident in the Feather River Canyon near Rich Bar.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Kathleen Pickering was life-flighted to Enloe Hospital in Chico with injuries that included broken ribs, a broken wrist and major internal bleeding.

Animal Shelter Closed

The Plumas County Animal Shelter will be closed Saturday May 21, 2011 due to a Parvo outbreak. We hope to reopen the doors on Monday May 23rd. We appologize for any inconvenience the closure has caused.
