Blood and gore and the blank stares of his baby and adult goats is what greeted Genesee youth Paul Astles when he went to do his chores in the barn before school Monday, March 12.

It was a full-scale slaughter of kids and adults.

“It was a mess in there,” said a fellow rancher who saw it.

Young family man Kevin Goss just may be the new District 2 supervisor in Plumas County.

No one else filed to run for the seat currently held by Robert Meacher, so Goss’s name will appear on the election ballot along with a write-in space, as required by law, according to County Registrar Kathy Williams.

A mountain lion has been spotted two days in a row hunting in the Mount Hough Estates neighborhood and the surrounding area near Crescent Mills. This is the only one still living of seven lions spotted in Indian Valley communities since January.

Plumas County Sheriff Deputy Phil Shannon, a resident of that neighborhood, said that one person saw the body of a medium-sized dog in the lion’s mouth yesterday morning, when it ran across Highway 89 and up a hill.

Deputies have been unable to find anyone with a missing dog. "Could it have been a young deer?" Shannon wondered.

On Tuesday, March 13, the Plumas County Board of Supervisors approved a development agreement with Lake Almanor Associates LP for a future community on the Lake Almanor Peninsula.

The Lake Front at Walker Ranch, which has been in the works since 2003, took another step toward becoming a reality thanks to the supervisors’ unanimous approval.
