Based on comments made at the weekly Chester Area District Advisory or “7-11” Committee meeting, there has been a lot of confusion surrounding the possible closures and/or consolidations of schools in Plumas County.

Most PUSD schools on two hour delayed start, but Chester on schedule
Portola, Quincy and Greenville schools are on a two hour delayed start

The bus barn at Plumas Unified School District called to inform Feather Publishing that all PUSD schools in Portola, Quincy and Greenville areas will have a two hour delayed start Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012 due to R2 chain requirements in all areas. School starts at 10:10 a.m. and dismisses at the regular time in the afternoon. All morning bus pick up times will be two hours later.
However, schools in Chester are open and starting on time, but buses will be running slow due to the maximum of 35 MPH allowed on the highways while running chains.

Carey honored as Firefighter of the Year

Members of the Quincy Volunteer Fire Department overwhelmingly voted to honor Assistant Fire Chief Frank Carey as the organization’s 2012 Firefighter of the Year.
In making the presentation at the department’s annual awards and installation of officers banquet Feb. 18, Fire Commissioner Mike Taborski said since joining the department in 2000, Carey has distinguished himself as a role model and leader. He has risen through the ranks from firefighter to captain and now assistant fire chief.

Winter storm warning issued; County cautions not all roads plowed
National Weather Service has issued a "WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM THIS EVENING TO 10 PM PST WEDNESDAY"
Plumas County Road Department will not be maintaining roads that are normally closed during the Winter if this Winter Storm produces the predicted "TUESDAY NIGHT....SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 5 TO 8 INCHES LOWER ELEVATIONS...8 TO 14 INCHES HIGHER ELEVATIONS." and "WEDNESDAY...SNOW IN THE MORNING.....SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 6 TO 11 INCHES."

Seneca has banner month; Inks deal for electronic medical records

“I’m going to say this is a heck of a board meeting we are having today from the standpoint of our financials and the decision the board will be making about an electronic medical records system,” Seneca Healthcare District Chief Executive Officer Doug Self said Feb. 23.
In what Self called a “banner month,” January revenue hit the $1,146,471 mark, a figure that tied with only one other January.
