Reward in arson case increased to $2,100

The reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of an arsonist was increased to $2,100 last week.

Anyone with information about a May 21 fire that destroyed a house at 1195 Lee Road in East Quincy is encouraged to call the Quincy Fire Department at 283-0870 or the CalFire Arson Tip Line at (800) 468-4408.

Dredge miners hear giant sucking sound

The controversial practice of suction dredge mining may be banned permanently in California thanks to recently passed budget language. Committees in both houses of the California Legislature passed the language last month. The language awaits final approval as part of the state’s overall budget package.

Fatal accident on Highway 70

Three Oroville residents were killed in an accident Saturday afternoon, June 4, near the county line between Butte and Plumas.

The driver, approximately 35 years old, was headed westbound on Highway 70 with two juvenile passengers in the car, according to a press release from the Chico office of the California Highway Patrol.
