Gerneral plan working groups to meet; dates changed.

The working groups for the general plan update will be meeting in their own districts for the first time next week.

The agendas for the meetings feature discussion of past community visioning discussions on the new general plan along with strengths and weaknesses of the current general plan.
The meetings will be open to the public.

Officer fabricated assaults, sheriff says

    Representatives for the Plumas County Sheriff’s Department have announced their belief that Sergeant Todd Posch, a correctional officer at High Desert State Prison, fabricated two strange incidents in which he reported being attacked.
    According to a press release written by Investigations Sergeant Steve Peay, the department’s dispatch center reported receiving a 911 report Wednesday, Feb. 3, from Posch.

County sales tax revenue drops suddenly

    A report by County Administrative Officer Jack Ingstad dated Monday, Feb. 1, reported that the county’s midyear budget was relatively balanced with $11.3 million in revenues and $11.8 million in expenditures.
    Construction permits and tax collections were basically on target compared to projections for the year, meaning that they continued to go down on a year-to-year basis, although at a slower rate than in prior years.

    In Greenville, where high school classes and programs have been cut time and again, and where rumors of imminent school closure abound, a growing number of locals are ready to tell Plumas Unified School District management and trustees where to go.
    District trustee Jonathan Kusel has heard about their concerns—legitimate concerns—many times.

Hospital directors and administrators try to curb criticism

    When Plumas District Hospital directors met in closed session Tuesday morning, Feb. 2, to discuss potential litigation, they anticipated being served papers at that evening’s public board meeting. But no such drama materialized. Instead, the 30 people in attendance heard what is becoming familiar rhetoric.
    Hospital directors and administrators continued their efforts to pacify critics of their bond measure by pledging to hold two community forums within 45 days. The district made good on that promise by announcing Friday it had scheduled two special board meetings to function as community forums.

Award-winning film features local wardens and black market bear traders

    Residents with the Discovery Planet Green channel can tune in to see what happens when Department of Fish and Game Warden Zeke Awbrey of Quincy and wildlife crime investigative reporter Steve Galster discover a 20-pound bear cub shot in the head near Poplar Valley above Sloat.
    They appear in the national premiere of “Crime Scene Wild: Bears,” Friday, Feb. 12, at 5 p.m., one segment of an award-winning mini-series by Cicada Productions of London.
