County prepares for roadwork on Oro-Quincy Highway

County supervisors took a series of steps Tuesday, Jan. 19, in preparation of roadwork on the Oroville-Quincy Highway that will leave a portion of the byway closed for as long as eight weeks.
The highway, also known as Bucks Lake Road/Big Creek Road or Forest Highway 119, runs from Quincy past Bucks Lake and down to Oroville. The work will take place on Big Creek Road.

Storm conditions trigger emergency declaration for Plumas County

As some Almanor Basin residents approached 48 hours without power, county officials declared a state of emergency late Friday afternoon, Jan. 22. The declaration makes the county eligible for state aid and financial assistance.
Supervisor Sherrie Thrall, who represents the Lake Almanor Basin, said the declaration was due in large part to conditions in Chester, which has been the hardest hit area in Plumas County. Heavy snowfall has toppled trees, which have taken out power lines, crashed through carports and landed on home roofs.

State mandates raise in Portola sewer costs

The Portola City Council reviewed new requirements in its wastewater discharge permit at its Jan. 13 meeting and found that meeting these requirements will put the sewer fund into a negative balance situation for the first time.
