Demand for social services hits 12-year high

    Plumas County Social Services Director Elliott Smart told the Plumas County Board of Supervisors his department received 300 applications for assistance in November, the largest number since 1997. 

   Smart presented his quarterly trends report for winter 2009 to the board at a Tuesday, Feb. 9, meeting.

City pledges $10,000 for Railroad Days 2010

    Railroad Days Committee members Donna Mills and Cindy Wood recently appeared before the city council to request support from the city for this year’s Railroad Days.

In an earlier report to the council, Wood had summarized the previous year’s Railroad Days finances, which had ended in a $1,500 deficit for the event. The city had covered that final outstanding invoice and requested that the committee re-appear after the six-month financial report.

A proposal to shut off 19 streetlights in Taylorsville, Greenville and Canyon Dam will be up for action tonight, Wednesday, March 3, at 6:30 p.m.    Directors of the Indian Valley Community Services District will meet in the Indian Valley Civic Center, at 430 Main St. in Greenville.

R-1: Chains are required on all commercial vehicles (trucks or buses). All
other vehicles (cars, pick-ups, vans, etc.) must have either snow tread
tires or chains on the drive axle.
