Renters may hold key to Measure B vote

As the Measure B tax vote comes down to the wire, both campaigns are focusing on a particular segment of the voting population - renters.

These voters don't receive a property tax assessment and are historically less likely to vote than homeowners.

A forest tour Tuesday, Aug. 10, ended in a hoot, and it wasn't from an owl.

It was a shout of surprised laughter from Quincy Library Group attorney Michael Jackson.

Along for the ride on the tour were Quincy Library Group members, a Sierra Forest Legacy representative, local landowners, Forest Service officers and other forest stakeholders.

Museum hosts 'A Grave Occasion' cemetery tour and dinner fundraiser

The Plumas County Museum Association will host a tour Saturday, Sept. 18, of the Old Quincy Cemetery as the first of several fundraisers throughout the year to help raise the $34,000 needed for the assistant museum director's salary.

It will rain in Blairsden the weekend of Aug. 20 -21. It will rain at 8 p.m. Friday evening. It will rain at 4 p.m. Saturday as well and again at 8.

It will flash lightning and thunder will roar. The sound of wind will add to the mix and rain will be heard pelting the roof. There will be a full-scale thunderstorm with all of its drama and majesty, but the storm will be a very local affair, and no one need worry about lightning strikes or wildfire.

8:00 a.m. Update

The four fires that make up the Caribou Complex on the Plumas National Forest are now 100% contained. The fires burned a total of 95 acres.

Traffic control on Hwy 70 in the Feather River Canyon will be in place at the beginning and ending of the day shift due to suppression equipment and personnel in roadway. Delays will be minimal.

This will be the last update on these fires.

5:30 a.m. Update

Fire activity was minimal over-night. Crews will continue to improve fire lines and mop up today.

Today, the overall containment for all four fires is 95%. Full containment is expected tomorrow, August 17.

Firefighting resources for today includes: 2 helicopters, 16 engines, and 4 Hotshot Type 1 crews, 4 Type 2 hand crews, and 3 water tenders. Release of some firefighting resources will also begin today.

Hwy 70 is open with one-way traffic controls and a pilot car escort for a short one-mile stretch of highway where fire equipment will be working. Motorists should expect brief delays. Please use caution when driving through the fire area.
