PG&E warns customers of nationwide utility scam

Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (PG&E) is alerting customers to be aware of a scam that has impacted other utility customers across the country. The scam, which has been reportedly taking place in person, through social media, through posted fliers and through text messages, claims that President Barack Obama is providing a credit or directly paying utility bills. In some cases, customers have been asked for Social Security numbers to apply payments to customers’ utility bills, presenting an identity-theft risk.

PG&E wants to remind customers that PG&E representatives would not ask for personal or banking information over the phone.

 

District 1 candidates for supervisor meet in forum

Though the May 8 forum for District 1 supervisor was sparsely attended, those in the audience asked a lot of questions.

The three candidates spent nearly two hours addressing constituents’ concerns that ranged from the economy to schools to water.

 

County museum to add visitors center duties

Tourists traveling through Plumas County could soon have a place to get their questions answered.

By a unanimous vote Tuesday, May 8, the Board of Supervisors approved a pair of resolutions that would make the museum in Quincy the county’s visitors center as well.

Supervisor Terry Swofford told Supervisor Lori Simpson he was “pissed off” at her for questioning his integrity.

Swofford’s anger grew when Simpson laughed at him and said, “I’m sorry, but I’ve seen you in action. I don’t think you would represent us and be fair.”

 

Lafferty unveils initial PDH upgrade details

Chief Executive Officer Doug Lafferty revealed initial cost estimates and building plans to Plumas District Hospital directors and a handful of community members at a special board meeting May 10.

Lafferty said the hospital building is sound although it does require some seismic and safety upgrades, such as strapping and sprinklers.
