  • New state: Proponents of the state of Jefferson pushed the Plumas County Board of Supervisors to sign a declaration of support Jan. 20, but they didn’t get it.
  • Nursing home to close: Healthcare leaders learned that the skilled nursing hospital in Quincy is slated for closure, which would result in the relocation of more than three dozen patients and the loss of 60 jobs.
  • Program sacked: Judge Ira Kaufman is no longer sentencing people to drug court. He said he was ending the program because clients weren’t being served.

Snake Tree has fallen: What's next

    Folklore and frenzy surround the recently fallen Snake Tree in McReynolds Valley, which is just next to Squaw Valley.

    Members of the Roundhouse Council first talked about its demise at their meeting in late April, according to Corla Bertrand, the executive director of the Greenville-based Indian education center.

Judge rules in favor of petitioners

    In a stunning victory for tax limitation initiative proponents, Butte Superior Court Judge Thomas Kelly ruled in favor of their right to write the ballot language; ordered Plumas District Hospital to hold a mail ballot election Aug. 31; and granted a temporary restraining order preventing the hospital from selling any more bonds until the election has occurred.
