Animal Tales: Our special use permit was granted!
Submitted by Friends of Plumas County Animals
Lots of people have been asking how the Special Use Permit hearing was decided. Friends was granted the permit! Thank you all for your support in this process.
This was an emotional and long meeting in which many of our volunteers were able to express their dedication to the rescue organization. The Zoning Administrator actually heard our concerns and amended the staff recommendations to make it totally workable for us to continue to save and re-home Plumas County animals. We are so grateful and relieved to know county staff are receptive to the needs of their constituents and are actually listening with an open heart. Thank you Tracy Ferguson, Zoning Administrator.
Also, our signs will be going back on the fence after getting a sign permit. Thank you to Tim Evans in Planning for his help on this.
Our next hurdle was to have the Building director, come into the site and make sure the building is compliant with codes. The bathroom will need to be upgraded to ADA compliance by taking out and moving a wall and that will put the opening of the rescue back— along with putting a sizable dent in our pocketbook! We are working to get plans for the remodel submitted and then approved and then get the bathroom and ADA compliant parking painted in the lot. We think those two things will be the last hurdles before we can start accepting and adopting out animals.
Our opening was scheduled for March 22, but it is now postponed, which gives us more time to prepare for the arrival of animals. We are frustrated for sure with the new delay, but realize this vision will happen and after 14 months of delays we are close to seeing it materialize.
Meantime the cat patios are going in; the cat room is being dry-walled and textured and we continue to add paint, shelves, stock up with food and litter and wait…
Thank you all for your patience and your support. We really could not do this huge endeavor without the donations you send and the kind words of encouragement. Keep ‘em coming please!!!!
