It was a busy early morning for law enforcement, fire personnel and first responders in Plumas County today, June 18 — with an attempted murder in Quincy and an apartment fire in Portola — both reported around 1 a.m. Suspects are in custody.

Plumas County Sheriff’s Detective Steve Peay provided information on both situations this morning.

The Quincy incident involved two male roommates in their 20s who reside in an apartment complex on Claremont Avenue. According to Peay, the suspect used a sharp, cutting instrument to harm the victim, who is now being treated for significant injuries in an out-of-area hospital. The suspect has been arrested for attempted murder and mayhem.

A Portola man has been arrested for a suspected arson fire that damaged four apartments on Rocky Point Road in Portola. According to Peay, the suspect’s apartment was a near total loss, while three others were damaged.

The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney have been on site at both locations as the investigations continue.

More information will be reported as it becomes available.
