Ballots have been mailed

Must be returned by March 26

The Senate District 1 Special Primary Election will be held Tuesday, March 26, and you should have received your ballot in the mail. If you are a registered voter in Plumas County and have not received it, call 283-6256.

A vacancy occurred in the senate district last November when Senator Ted Gaines was elected to the California Board of Equalization.

Six names are on the ballot:

Steve Baird (Democrat, manager, broker and author from Sacramento). Even though his name will appear on the ballot, he sent out an email Feb. 20 saying that he had withdrawn from the race.

Brian Dahle (Republican, farmer, businessman and assemblyman from Bieber). Dahle currently serves Plumas County as the District 1 assemblyman.

Theodore Dziuba (Republican businessman from Placerville).

Rex Hime (Republican small business advocate from Sacramento).

Kevin Kiley (Republican assemblyman and small businessman from Rocklin).

Silke Pflueger (Democrat, safety advocate and businesswoman from Truckee).

If no candidate garners 50 percent plus one vote, the two who garner the most votes will advance to a June 4 runoff.

The district includes all or parts of Lassen, Nevada, Alpine, El Dorado, Modoc, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, Shasta, Sierra and Siskiyou counties.

Ballots must be postmarked by March 26 and received in the elections office by March 29 for those that are mailed. Those that are hand delivered must be walked into the office or placed in the ballot box outside the front of the courthouse by 8 p.m. on March 26.

For more information, call 283-6256.
