Busy agenda for board’s Feb. 7 meeting

The agenda is eight pages along with another 419 pages of backup material — welcome to the Feb. 7 meeting of the Plumas County Board of Supervisors.

There are a number of items to be considered including 21 items on the consent agenda, which are deemed routine and usually passed as a block. However, supervisors can and do remove items that they want to discuss. Such might be the case Tuesday. The county’s Behavioral Health Department is asking for approval to allocate $1.2 million for various agreements to address services in the county. The spending involves federal and state funds.

Also on the consent portion of the agenda are contracts for engineering services to replace the Blairsden-Graeagle Bridge and the Keddie Resort Bridge. Additionally, three positions are on consent — two for Child Support Services and one for a maintenance worker.

Presentations for the day include: certificates of appreciation for local broadcasters Ron Trumbo and Tommy Miles, an update from the Dixie Fire Collaborative, as well as an update on how the transition to the new county payroll system is faring. The board will also meet the finalists of the Plumas County League of Women Voters essay contest. The winner, Quincy High School’s Luke Lerch, will read his essay on the topic “Is immigration good for the United States?”

Finally, the board will vote on a host of items presented by various departments including the Sheriff, Planning, Public Health, Environmental Health, County Counsel, Human Resources, and the County Administrative Officer. One of those items includes a $1,500 stipend for sheriff’s personnel from the American Rescue Plan Act, the federal response to COVID. Other employees have already received the stipend.

For those who would like to attend the meeting, it is held on the third floor of the county courthouse in Quincy beginning at 10 a.m. It can also be viewed live online from the county’s website or is available on Zoom.
