Caltrans pauses debris removal on Hwy 70 for safety reasons

Caltrans District 2 announced this afternoon, Nov. 16, that work on the slide in the Feather River Canyon has been suspended for safety reasons.

Over the weekend the large slide on Highway 70 near the Butte/Plumas County line became active again, making it unsafe for workers. Thus, debris removal has been suspended until the site can be further assessed and recommendations made.

Debris removal will continue when it is safe to do so, but as a result, any planned reopening to even one lane of traffic, is being reassessed.
