Car vs. boulder results in rollover; public warned to beware

A Cromberg woman suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital when a boulder rolled into her path on Highway 89.

The California Highway Patrol reported that at approximately 4 p.m. on Feb. 7, Molly Kenney, 79, was driving her 2015 Lexus RX-350 northbound on Highway 89 just north of Little Truckee Summit when a large boulder rolled off the steep hillside from above the east shoulder of the highway.

The boulder fell directly in the path of the Lexus. Kenney subsequently lost control of her vehicle and collided with the snowbank on the east shoulder of  89 and overturned. Kenney’s Lexus came to rest blocking the northbound lane and one-way traffic control was established for a short time until Kenney’s vehicle could be removed from the lane. Kenney was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Note from Quincy Area CHP:  Please slowdown in sharp curves. With warmer weather approaching, watch for rocks and debris that may fall from the steep thawing hillsides above.
