CDC approves another vaccine in COVID fight; available beginning Aug. 4 in Plumas County

The CDC updated its COVID-19 vaccine recommendations last week, approving the Novavax vaccine for emergency use authorization for adults 18 years and older. Novavax is a two-dose, protein-based COVID-19 vaccine that is currently being used in more than 40 countries and has also been authorized by the European Union and the World Health Organization.

Novavax is another option for unvaccinated Americans who have not received their primary series of Pfizer or Moderna mRNA vaccines or the viral-vector Johnson & Johnson vaccine, and was created using a more traditional protein-based technology. The U.S. has secured 3.2 million doses of Novavax, and the vaccine will be available next week in Plumas County.

Plumas County Public Health Agency Clinic will be offering Novavax every other Thursday at the Clinic starting Aug 4. Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty will also be available the same day whereas is Moderna offered the alternate Thursday. Johnson & Johnson is no longer available at PCPHA Clinic. Visit myturn.ca.gov or call 530- 283-6330 if you’d like to schedule a COVID-19 vaccine with the clinic. Local pharmacies and hospitals may not have all kinds of vaccine on hand.
