The Plumas County Library is at the halfway point for both its Summer Reading Program and its  Scavenger Hunt. “Join us at each branch for the last two weeks of July for fun events like scratch and paper art, learning about the river, and discovering birds,” said Lindsay Fuchs, Plumas County librarian. “You also have the rest of July to participate in any of the Scavenger Hunts for prizes and entrance into our raffle.” The reading logs will continue until Aug. 14, and youth can join for as many weeks as they want.  Check out the website for more information: https://www.plumascounty.us/2712/Summer-Reading-Program

Lending Library

“We have restarted our Tool Lending Library, and this time we are including hotspots,” Fuchs said.  Don’t have Internet access at home? Borrow a Hotspot, which is a portable Wi-Fi unit that lets you connect your device (phone, tablet, laptop, and so on) to the Internet.  (The library tested these in some of the places around the County that don’t usually get Internet Service and have found they worked in most of those spots, though it’s not guaranteed it will work in your location.)

The library has completed a major website update – check out the additional information, resources, and programs, from genealogy to driver’s ed. “We are continuing to add fun activities and games to our list of things to do during COVID-19,” Fuchs said.  “We have a page devoted to what is in our collection – from our physical items hosted at each branch to the e-books and e-magazines and streaming movies.”

Families Read Together

Plumas County Library was one of six libraries in California to participate in Libraries Transforming Communities: Focus on Small and Rural Libraries, an initiative that helps library workers better serve their small and rural communities. The Library will help inmates of the county jail connect with their children by reading to them over recorded video through the program Families Read Together. Each family will receive five chosen books and a video of the guardian reading to their child, fostering both literacy and familial connection. Please join the library on zoom on Wednesday, July 21 at 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to discuss the program and what the library can do to help the families of inmates and organizations that work directly with inmates and their families. “We are inviting everyone who deals with the jail population, released inmates or their families to join this meeting,” Fuchs said.  If you are interested in becoming involved or taking part in the conversation, please contact Sharon McKay at (530) 283-6413 or [email protected] for more information.

Book sales

Check out our upcoming Book Sales in Quincy and Chester, hosted by our Friends of the Library!  Chester’s Annual Book Sale is Saturday July 31 and Sunday August 1 2021 from 9:00am-3:00pm.  (Please note Chester Library will be closed Saturday July 31 for the book sale.) Quincy’s Quarterly Book Sale runs Thursday August 5 to Saturday August 7; Thursday from 2pm-6pm for members only (you can join at the door), and Friday from 10am-6pm and Saturday 10am-2pm. Check out our great deals!
