Chester Fire resumes full operations

Chester Public Utility District Manager Adam Cox announced this evening that the district has resumed full operations at the Chester Fire Department effective immediately, March 31, 2022, after having worked diligently to secure adequate liability coverage to protect the community. Cox said this change in status was approved by the department’s regional emergency services authority, Northern California EMS, Inc.

“CPUD/CFD thanks our residents, our employees, community stakeholders and elected officials, and our allied agencies and partners for ensuring fire response and Advanced Life Support coverage over the past several days,” Cox said in a press release. “CFD will immediately begin an operational review of its business practices and policies to ensure continuity of operations.”

Tonight’s announcement came two days after a well attended special meeting on the subject March 29. Chester Fire had to cease fire and emergency medical calls for a period when it was discovered that its liability insurance had lapsed.
