Chester man dies in snowmobile accident

A Chester man was killed in a snowmobile accident shortly after midnight Jan. 8 according to a report by the Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol.

At 12:01 a.m. on Jan. 8, Dylan Walker Crain, 23, of Chester was driving his friend’s 2003 Ski-Doo Bombardier snowmobile at an unknown rate of speed on private property. Weather conditions were cold and wet. It was cloudy and actively snowing.

For unknown reasons, Crain drove the snowmobile into a metal gate. The rider was ejected from the vehicle as it passed under the gate. Crain sustained major injuries from the collision. He died at the scene.

This collision remains under investigation.
