CHP Report: Motorcycle vs. bear
James Murphy, 67, of Susanville was driving his 2006 Honda Goldwing motorcyle on Highway 36 west of the Pacific Crest Trail at about 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 25. According to the CHP report, a bear ran from a wooded area directly into the path of the motorcycle. Murphy was ejected from the motorcycle and it overturned. A witness stayed with Murphy until help arrived. His chief complaint was chest pain and broken ribs were suspected. Murphy was transported for medical care.
