CHP reports on motorcycle incident that closed Highway 70 temporarily

Daniel Disbrow, 31, of Reno, was riding his 1977 Yahama SX650 eastbound on Highway 70 just east of Beckwourth Pass at 8:34 p.m. on July 5. According to the California Highway Patrol, he was under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Due to his level of intoxication, Disbrow laid his motorcycle down in the middle of the lane and both slid for approximately 335 feet before colliding with the dirt embankment on the south side of Highway 70.

Minutes later passersby saw Disbrow lying on the side of the road and called 911. Sierra Valley Fire responded and began stabilizing him and treating his multiple major injuries. An on-scene DUI investigation was performed and Disbrow was arrested for DUI. The highway was closed for approximately 20 minutes while Care Flight landed and loaded Disbrow.
