CHP seeking witnesses of fatal collision near Bogard Rest Area

A head-on collision near the Bogard Rest Area on Highway 44 resulted in fatal injuries to a Utah resident and moderate to major injuries to three others yesterday.

According to the Susanville area office of the California Highway Patrol, on Dec. 27 at 5:19 p.m., Debbie Guasparilosa, 66, of Napa, was driving a 2009 Ford pickup eastbound on State Route 44.

A driver from Provo, Utah (who has not yet been identified until notification of kin) was driving a 2006 Buick westbound on State Route 44. For reasons currently under investigation, both vehicles collided in a head-on crash, just east of the Bogard Rest Area.

The driver of the Buick suffered fatal injuries at the scene. Two passengers — Jeremy Card, 47, and Sebastian Jones, 27,  both of Provo, Utah, suffered major to moderate injuries, respectively. Guasparilosa suffered moderate injuries. All injured parties were transported to Banner-Lassen hospital in Susanville.

This crash is still under investigation, and the CHP is seeking information from anyone who witnessed the collision. Please call 530-252-1800.
