COVID cases surge in neighboring Lassen County

Last Friday, Lassen Cares, the organization that tracks COVID-19 in Lassen County, reported 87 active cases, a number that had doubled in just two days. As of 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, Lassen Cares reports the number of active cases in Lassen County skyrocketed to 289. And the state and federal correctional institutions report 226 active cases among inmates as well.

Richard Egan, a public information officer for Lassen Cares, acknowledged the increase in the number of reported cases, but he noted despite the increase there is only one current hospitalization. He said he doesn’t know if the Omicron variant is responsible for the surge in the number of local cases because the county doesn’t have access to that kind of information.
