Elks help area families with Christmas needs
The Lake Almanor Elks Lodge 2626 is just finalizing another successful “Christmas Angels” program for the Chester/Lake Almanor, Westwood and Greenville areas.
Since 2007, the ladies at the local Elks Lodge have researched the needs of the different communities to ensure that families needing help at Christmas time will have some needed assistance.
They then host several fundraisers to provide the assistance, have designated shoppers to procure the needed goods, and gather for a massive day of wrapping presents and boxing up food items to be distributed.
Finally, all the family packages are loaded into trailers and taken to their final destinations.
Each year the number of families served by the program has grown and this year 33 families representing 72 children will enjoy a little better Christmas.
Project coordinator Jane Scott had nothing but praise for all the volunteers and businesses that generously gave of their time and non-perishable goods.
She also offered a special thank you to Holiday Market for donating the perishable foods included in the packages.
