Update: Concerts cancelled once more in Portola

Update: As of 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, Plumas News received news that the concert for this week, at least, would be cancelled after all due to ongoing threat posed by the Dixie Fire. City of Portola Mayor Bill Powers said that they “can’t in good conscience go ahead with (the concerts) when our safety -and that of musicians- can’t be guaranteed.”
After three of Portola’s free summer “Concerts in the Park” had to be cancelled because of very poor air quality and Dixie Fire concerns, event coordinator Bill Powers has scheduled three participating bands to perform on consecutive Fridays at 7 p.m. in September, on the third, tenth, and seventeenth.
Performing on Friday, September 3 is the ever-popular Blue Haven, back for their fifth night in the park.
On Friday, September 10, back for a command performance, is Margret’s Funk Band with styles right out of the MoTown Sound. On September 17, the Buddy Emmer Project will delight us all featuring high class selections. Sound and lights are by Pete Rhode and a full service bar is available. “Please come join us on these special nights and let your mind off-duty for a few hours from what has been a very stressful summer,” organizers invite.
