Feather River Food Co-Op in Portola closes temporarily

The Board of Directors of the Quincy Natural Food and Feather River Food coops announced that the Feather River Food Co-op closed temporarily April 1.

The decision was made due to a drastic reduction in staff as well as concern for employees. “We honor the People over Profit model and respect the need for employees to stay home to protect their own health, care for a loved one or provide children with care,” the letter read.

Directors said they were not able to fill in with temporary workers, as the jobs are unique and require specialized training and experience.

“It is our desire and intention to re-open FRFC at some point in time, but a pandemic is new territory, and we cannot predict that date,” the letter read.

The general manager and store manager at FRFC have put much thought and discussion into how to deal with COVID-19 while protecting the health and safety of employees and customers.

“We ask for your understanding and support. For now, we will focus on curbside service at the Quincy location only,” directors said.

Shoppers may place online orders for up to 50 items at www.qnf.coop or phone orders for up to 10 items by calling 283-3528; orders will be available for pick-up the following day.

Special orders may be placed online or over the phone. Respect employees when picking up your curbside order and maintain a six-foot distance.

The Co-op does have savings and emergency funds, but, like all small businesses, still needs people to shop to stay open.
