FRC nominated for prestigious $1 million Aspen Prize

Feather River College has been nominated as a finalist for the $1 million Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence. The committee nominates 150 colleges nationally every two years, with FRC being a finalist for the 2023 award.

According to the Aspen Institute: “The Aspen Prize honors colleges with outstanding achievement in five critical areas: teaching and learning, certificate and degree completion, transfer and bachelor’s attainment, workforce success, and equity for students of color and students from low-income backgrounds.” Former President Barack Obama referred to the award as “basically the Oscars for great community colleges.”

FRC President Kevin Trutna said, “Texts started coming from across California this morning at 6:30 a.m. when the announcement was made congratulating us on FRC’s nomination for this prestigious award. It is exciting to see FRC employees, and the support our students receive from Plumas County, be recognized nationally.”

“Overall, this award demonstrates that FRC’s commitment to student success is in fact working and now being recognized at a national level,” read a portion of the press release accompanying the announcement.
