Frenchman Lake remains closed due to fire impacts

The Plumas National Forest would like to remind recreationists that Frenchman Lake is closed due to the impacts of the Beckwourth Complex Fire. Work is ongoing to complete fireline rehabilitation and to remove hazard trees that could impact visitors and recreation infrastructure. Firefighters continue to find hot spots within the fire perimeter and need to address them without congestion from visitors.

Some of the facilities at the lake and in the campgrounds have been damaged and repairs will need to be made before it is safe to reopen.

The Forest Closure Order is in effect until Sept. 1, but may be extended if conditions require. The forest will welcome back  visitors when it is safe for them to visit. The full closure order may be found at https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/plumas/alerts-notices

Questions about this closure may be directed to the Beckwourth Ranger District at (530) 836- 2575.
