The Chester girls’ basketball team is running a 9-6 overall record and sitting 2-0 as league play kicked off this past week. The girls have won their past four games in a row starting with a preseason match against the Westwood Lumberjacks on Dec. 20 where the Vols came out on top, 52-26.

The Los Molinos Bulldogs were the first to fall to the Volcanoes in 2019 as they lost Jan. 8 by a score of 51-32.

“Chancey Juska lead the team with 21 points, 12 in the first quarter,” said parent and fan Mark Miller.

The American Christian Academy Eagles were next to feel the heat of the Volcanoes on Jan. 10 as they were beaten 48-37.

“Senior Ashlyn Olah lead the team with 11 points, closely followed by sophomore Jordan Smith with 10 points, and freshman Samantha Miller with 9 points,” said Mark Miller.

And in Chester’s most recent game the Volcanoes showed no mercy for the Mercy Warriors on Jan. 11 as they won 54-38. Miller led Chester with 22 points, making eight of 12 free throws while Chancey Juska shot 100 percent from the free throw line sinking three of three opportunities.

Mark Miller kept track at all three games and reports that Miller and Juska lead the team this week as they each scored 37 points, followed by Olah with 22 points. Senior Lyric Quinn racked up 20 points this week as did sophomore Jordan Smith. Junior Bailey Redican scored 13, while junior Skylar Jansen, and senior Hannah Counts also put marks on the scoreboard.

“New to basketball and to the area is sophomore Sierra Clark who did not get much playing time this week, but is quickly learning the game and is going to be a good down low player shortly,” added Miller.
