Holiday food basket distribution a success
EPCAN, the local food bank in Portola, successfully distributed food baskets to 136 families in Eastern Plumas.
Food bank volunteers Cathe and Chuck Frank, Nancy Degger, Kim Jennings, and Nancy and Jim Meyers, gave out 85 family meal boxes on Thursday, Dec. 17. Volunteers from the Lions Club, under the direction of Craig Simmons, gave out another 51 boxes the next day.
The successful and fun event would not have been possible without the generosity of the community – individuals, organizations, and businesses such as Safeway (Quincy), Leonard’s Market and the Salvation Army. Michelle Ridley at the Portola Family Resource Center organized the family requests and made planning and distribution of the meals an efficient process. Event organizers and key players were Steve Clifton, Lisa Peiler, Cathy Churchill, Maureen Ford, Dink Rife and Nancy Meyers.
Helping the food bank get ready for the new year was a large non-perishable donation from the Quincy and Feather River Food Coops this week.
