Homeowners insurance: An important and timely local topic

If you have been following the articles in our local paper, you are aware of the issues surrounding homeowners insurance in California. Many Plumas County residents have seen a significant increase in their policy premiums while others have received non-renewal or cancellation notices.

Recently, the Plumas County Board of Supervisors sent a letter to California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara inviting him and his staff to meet with them and address the insurance crisis here in Plumas County.

As a prelude to this meeting, the Graeagle Fire Protection District Firewise Community has invited Ted Dobbs to speak on the topic of homeowners insurance. Now retired, Dobbs has 40 years of experience as a commercial underwriter with AIG, Aetna, INA, Cigna and Dean & Homer.

He will cover ways to help you determine whether you have enough insurance, insurance to value (this is critical), cancellations and non-renewals, how to reduce your premiums and other insurance related topics.

Dobbs will be speaking at the Graeagle Fire Hall this Friday, Sept. 20, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. This talk is open to the public and admission is free. Bring the declaration page of your homeowners insurance policy to follow along the discussion topics.
