House fire in Chilcoot in the midst of a stormy weekend

In the midst of a heavy storm system, Beckwourth Fire District responded for a call for mutual aid to a structure fire at 92210 Hwy. 70 in Chilcoot on Sunday, October 24 at 9:15 p.m. The call was initially handled by Sierra Valley Volunteer Fire Department (SVVFD).

Beckwourth Fire Chief Bret Russell explained that he was third on scene, and upon his arrival, the structure was fully involved. Chief Russell ended up taking command of the incident and providing manpower and fire suppression. “There was some exposure happening to adjacent buildings, but we were able to keep the fire from spreading beyond the initial structure,” Russell explained.

There were no injuries, however, the house is a total loss with the cause of the fire currently unknown and under investigation. “Sierra Valley Fire did a great job, and collectively, our mission was accomplished,” Russell concluded.
