Hunter finds human skull near Chester

Plumas County Sheriff Todd Johns announced today, Oct. 6, that a hunter discovered human remains in the Lake Almanor area. The sheriff made the announcement during the Board of Supervisors meeting and said that a press release would be forthcoming.

He added that his office contacted the family of an individual who was reported missing in the area a couple of years ago, though the remains have not been positively identified at this point.

In the press release, it was noted that a call came in at 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct 5, from a hunter who thought that he had located a human skull in a wooded area at the south end of First Avenue in Chester. It was confirmed to be human and Plumas County Search and Rescue is looking for additional remains.

The skull has been transported the medical examiner’s office for identification. More information will be shared as it becomes available.
