Let’s Go Birding Together on June 11

Let’s Go Birding Together: On Sunday, June 11, Plumas Audubon Society, Plumas County Gay-Straight Alliance, Feather River Land Trust, and Friends of Plumas Wilderness are sponsoring a guided bird walk at the Sierra Valley Preserve to celebrate Pride Month and watershed health. Attendees can enter a raffle to win prizes from The Lost Sierra Company, The Brewing Lair, and sponsoring organizations. A special prize will be provided for the best bird-themed costume, as voted on by attendees.

Meet at the Sierra Valley Preserve East Entrance at 9 a.m. The parking area is on County Road A-24 approximately 1.75 miles from the junction of Hwy 70. The walk will wrap up around 11:30 a.m. and you are invited to share a beverage at The Brewing Lair immediately after.

Bring your own snacks, water, sun protection, and plan to pack out any waste you pack in. A porta-potty is available on-site and binoculars will be available to borrow.

Let’s Go Birding Together is a National Audubon Society event that has been celebrated since 2018. If you are interested in learning more about the national organization’s involvement in this annual event, and thus our local chapter’s involvement, visit audubon.org/news/lets-go-birding-together. “Let’s Go Birding Together walks are for everyone who loves birds and the outdoors. We welcome those who identify as LGBTQ, allies, families, and anyone who wants to enjoy an outdoor experience that is inclusive. Why do we do this? Because the outdoors has not always been a welcoming place for LGBTQ people, and Audubon wants to help change that.”

This will be Plumas Audubon Society’s third year hosting a Pride month bird walk with partner organizations, and we hope this year’s turnout is just as fruitful as previous years.
