Letter to the Editor: Lucky to have PDH

Those of you who rely upon the Plumas District Hospital are very fortunate. PDH is a very special place. We have a cabin at Bucks Lake and this hospital has taken care of various summertime emergency needs for three generations of my family. I was unexpectantly hospitalized there for four days in June and learned that I needed serious abdominal surgery. Having access to multiple mega hospitals near our home in Fresno, I chose PDH instead.

Having already been hospitalized 31 times, I have seen the inside of more hospitals than anyone should. The emergency admission at PDH was remarkably superior to any I had seen in my 67 years. The staff was efficient, compassionate and met my every need. Dr. Ben Hunt took the time to explain the needed procedure and his friendly bedside manner gave me the confidence to schedule the surgery. He is absolutely qualified as a surgeon, and I had never met a doctor in a large hospital who made me feel so comfortable.

The surgery was a success. Everyone at PDH, from the admissions personnel to the exceptional nurses (and even the friendly cleaning staff) were wonderful. Each of them made my life better, and I am grateful beyond words. Residents of Quincy and the surrounding area should be very proud to have the Plumas District Hospital in their neighborhood. PDH may be small, but they are the very best.
