Letter to the Editor: Plumas County is timber country

Plumas County is timber country. Our communities are at their core tied to the timber industry. This proposal for larger scale logging in our forest to reduce the fuel loads of outrageously overgrown stands is not only needed but welcome to preserve the dignity and the future of young working class people in our communities. Timber pays higher salaries and provides steady yearround jobs that the tourism economy does not. The only way this county survives and retains its character and its people is through investment and support of our biggest economic asset: the forest. Tourism is not the future of Plumas County. It was and always will be timber.
