Letter to the Editor: There must be unity on courthouse location

This letter is from the former Administrative Director of Courts of California who has lived Plumas County for 15 years. The state recognition of the need to build a new courthouse in the county is an important acknowledgement of local needs. Clearly, the decision on the location must be consulted to ensure it is situated in a central place and readily accessible to the population.

A courthouse is not merely a government building. It is a symbol of justice for the community. It should be the point where the community gathers and witnesses’ justice in action.

It would be appropriate for there to be a process of formal consultation to bring about unity on the recommended decision on location. In these challenging times we need to build patterns of unity to foster a more harmonious community.
