Letter to the Editor: We can get it done together

Climate change is real and isn’t going to go away. A natural occurring warming of our planet that has been enhanced by mankind speeding up the process. While setting goals to reduce carbon invasion to zero is important, we must learn to exist with and prepare for it.

The only way this can be accomplished is if we all pull together as brothers and sisters putting aside our differences and debating those differences with love and respect rather than the hate and violence that is being portrayed more and more intensely these days. Projects such as piping water from flood prone areas to drought prone areas recharging aquifers. Building massive fire breaks around mountain and foothill communities and within those breaks cleaning, laddering and thinning. You will still experience fire within the breaks but they will be ground fires that are fightable with less chance of loss of life and lively hoods.

Prepping our coasts and intercoastal waterways for sea level rise and many more projects to help us have a planet that is safer for future generations. History dictates that when humans pull together amazing things can be accomplished. History also dictates violence. If we can work on eliminating the latter we can get ‘er done. If we can get local, state and federal governments as well as corporations and environmentalists on board, once again, debating peacefully.

“C’mon people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now”
