Motorcycle collision results in major injuries

The Quincy office of the California Highway Patrol released a report this morning about a motorcycle collision that occurred over the weekend, which sent one individual to the hospital with major injuries.

On Saturday, May 28 at approximately 1 p.m., Walter Bunning, 74, of Santa Maria, was driving his 2020 BMW motorcycle northbound on Forest Service Road 28N03. Wynne Benti, 65, of Bishop, was seated on her 2005 BMW motorcycle, stopped in the roadway, on Forest Service Road 28N03.

According to the CHP, due to Bunning’s unsafe speed, he was not able to stop his BMW motorcycle in time before he collided into Benti’s BMW motorcycle. Bunning steered to the right to try to avoid a collision with Benti, but the left side of Bunning’s BMW collided with the right side of Benti’s BMW motorcycle.

The collision caused Benti to fall off of her BMW motorcycle (uninjured). Bunning continued northbound and his BMW overturned onto the east shoulder of Forest Service Road 28N03. Bunning sustained major injuries and was care-flighted to Renown Medical Center.
