Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District invites community to join in at annual event on Saturday, April 22

The Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District is holding a Wood Stove Event with a focus on home heating and emissions in Portola at the Veterans Memorial Hall from on Saturday, April 22. There will be a free compressed wood log bundle given to the first 25 attendees.

The agenda for the event is as follows, with  presentations to begin promptly at 11:00 am.

At 11:05 a.m. Air District staff will introduce the event with an overview of the three targeted airshed grants, programs available, and health impacts related to wood smoke.

At 11:15 am, Shannon Reyna with Travis Industries will be present to speak as a hearth industry representative. Shannon works closely with one of NSAQMD’s retailers and she has a wealth of industry knowledge to share.

At 11:20 am, Jason Blust, one of NSAQMD’s two contracted mini split heat pump installers will be giving a demonstration of mini split systems for those of you wondering what they are and how they work. This will be followed by a Q&A session at 11:30 am.

“Food should be ready, coffee hot and cookies fresh! Please look around as we will have information spread all around, inside and out,” said Mikki Brown of the Portola NSAQMD.

Also present with us will be installers Wolf Creek Woodstoves and Quincy Hot Spot. QHS will be grilling hotdogs and hamburgers for anyone who attends. Chris Neufeld and Peter from Blaze King will be flying in from Washington to offer information and answer questions about their wood stove models. Chris, Peter, Shannon, and Laura of Travis Industries have a wealth of knowledge in the industry and NSAQMD highly recommend that you come out and join the conversation around efficient home heating and local emission reduction efforts.

Food will be free to all who attend, with offerings of hotdogs, hamburgers, chips, water, coffee, and cookies.

Big prizes being raffled off at the event with one $250 gift card to Ace Hardware, a $150 gift card and a $100 gift card all on the table to be won, along with a wonderful gift basket from Travis Industries. You must be present to enter and present to win. To enter you simply just need to sign in at the door on the sign up sheet. NSAQMD will use a random number generator to call out the four winners. Winners will be announced at 12:30 pm sharp.
