PDH ER reopens following overnight closure due to electrical issues

As of this morning, Jan. 11, the Plumas District Hospital emergency room is no longer on diversion, following last evening’s electrical fire.

CEO JoDee Read said that all inpatients remained at the hospital overnight, and though the ER closed for a time, no patients presented for treatment.

The Quincy Fire Department responded to a call for an electrical fire at Plumas District Hospital at approximately 5:30 p.m. last evening, Jan. 10.

Upon arrival firefighters found smoke, but no flames. There was also the distinctive odor of an electrical burn.

At the time Read, the hospital’s chief executive officer, said it’s unclear if an electrical surge or another issue was to blame, but some equipment had been compromised such as with the Xray unit. As a result, the emergency room was being put on diversion.

Read said more information about the problem would be shared when it becomes available.
