Pile burning planned near La Porte today
Plumas National Forest firefighters plan to conduct pile burning today, June 21, in recreation sites within Little Grass Valley Reservoir Recreation Area on the Feather River Ranger District near La Porte, conditions permitting.
Approximately 35 acres in the Wyandotte and Little Beaver campgrounds are planned for ignition. Both campgrounds are still closed as pre-season work, including fuel reduction activities are being conducted for public health and safety.
Ignitions are expected to only take one day, with smoke production possible for two days after.
Smoke is expected to be visible but not have significant long-term impacts to nearby communities, including La Porte and American House. Short duration, minor smoke impacts are possible on neighboring forest roads.
Visibility on roads in the project area may be reduced, especially early in the morning and late evening as smoke settles. Drivers in the area should use caution.
If weather conditions become unfavorable, including increased or gusty winds in the area, burning will stop until conditions improve. Firefighters will be monitoring conditions and the burning piles until fires are out.
